The Importance of This Issue

The mission of CASA is to hold politicians accountable on the illegal immigration issue, but some people ask “why illegal immigration?”  Why is this issue important.

First and foremost, illegal immigration is just what it says, illegal.  Although some would have you believe that illegal immigrants are simply “undocumented”, that is not the case.  Crossing the border hidden in trucks and overstaying visas is against the law, but politicians seem all to willing to pretend that this is business as usual.  Do they talk of issuing amnesties for tax fraud, fixing elections, or embezzlement?  Of course not!  These are crimes, and it is wrong to pretend that illegal immigration is just a state of being “undocumented.”

Furthermore, illegal immigration and our nation’s porous borders are a massive security threat.  In this day and age, you are not allowed to take a regular sized container of hand cream on an airplane, but politicians seem to think that having unaccountable border crossings is not an issue.  Preventing the smuggling of drugs, weapons, and terrorism can never be accomplished as long as there are nightly waves of people marching across the border.

The hiring of illegal immigrants “under the table” badly hurts U.S. citizens who need these jobs.  Labor laws, payroll taxes, and hiring illegal immigrants to skirt the law puts foreign nationals at an advantage over law abiding citizens.  The practice of ignoring illegal immgration only serves to provide an economic benefit to criminal practices.

These are just a few of the reasons why illegal immigration is one of the biggest problems facing Colorado today, and they are why Colorado Alliance for a Secure America is committed to holding politicians accountable for their actions.
